About Dr. Eschenroeder
Dr. Thomas A. Eschenroeder grew up in Kirkwood, Missouri. He graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1978 and earned his DDS degree from the University of Missouri in 1985. In 1989, Dr. Eschenroeder received his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Certification from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia. In 1992 he merged with our Practice.
The doctor was honored to receive an award for the highest GPA in his graduating dental school class. He is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society and served as class president during his years in dental school years. He received the Pediatric Dentistry Award at the University of Missouri, Kansas City Dental School.

Commonwealth Oral and Facial Surgery is known for its high level of customer and referring doctor support; its emphasis on continuing education; and its high standards for results. The partners in this practice realize the importance of staying current with the latest trends in the field. The doctors participate in CE courses and offer study clubs for dental professionals in order to introduce up-to-date concepts to the Richmond dental community.
Dr. Eschenroeder has been involved in dental implantology since he started in private practice. His philosophy is to offer practical solutions to meet the needs of his patients. He believes that offering treatment options to patients and working as an effective team member along with the patients' referring dentists are essential for the best possible outcomes. As a member of the Academy of Osseointegration, Dr Eschenroeder stays abreast of advances in the field of implant dentistry. One such development is Cone Beam CT scanning for diagnostics. This allows the doctors to treatment plan challenging cases for patients who otherwise might think implants are not an option for them.
Leadership in the Dental Profession
Dr. Eschenroeder is an honorary member of numerous professional organizations, including the Richmond Dental Society, The McKee Study Club, The Commonwealth Oral and Facial Surgery Study Club and the Midlothian Study Club. He is also a member of the Virginia Dental Association and the Virginia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
In the field of implantology, Dr. Eschenroeder is a member of the Academy of Osseointegration. He has been a certified BLS instructor. He also participates with the education of the oral surgery residents at VCU/MCV.
At Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Dentistry, he participates with the education of the Oral Surgery residents.
Community & Family
He has donated his skills to the Mission of Mercy (MOM) foundation by serving as an oral surgeon at the Eastern Shore Mission Trip. He has also traveled with the American Cancer Society to participate with oral health care screening clinics. His oral surgery donated services are made available through the VDA Donated Dental service organization.
He is also active at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Bon Air, Virginia, where he has served as Senior Warden, has devoted several years to the church choir, and he is currently the Chairman of their Capital Campaign.
Dr. Eschenroeder is devoted to his wife Susan and their three children. His hobbies include photography and music. He enjoys family time and whenever possible he pursues outdoor activities including back country fishing and camping trips out West.
