About Dr. Cyr
Dr. Jeffrey E. Cyr grew up in upstate (Vestal), New York. He graduated from Wake Forest University in 1982 and earned his DDS degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia in 1986. He found his interest in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery while a dental resident at Langley Air Force Base.
He received his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Certification in 1993 from the Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia. In 1993, Dr. Cyr started practicing as a solo practitioner in the Brandermill area, a mile east of our current location. He also maintained a satellite practice in Farmville, Virginia. In 1996 Dr. Cyr merged with our Practice.
Expertise in Dental Implants
During over 20 years of placing dental implants, Dr. Cyr has regularly participated in many continuing education courses involving all aspects of implant dentistry. He finds great satisfaction in the entire spectrum of implant therapy, ranging from simple tooth replacement to full mouth reconstruction, and believes that dental implants are a wonderful technology to help people with missing teeth. Dr. Cyr's approach is to provide patients as much education as possible regarding their specific treatment options, so that they can choose the option they feel is best for them.
Dr. Cyr feels that one of the strengths of Commonwealth Oral & Facial Surgery is that the doctors place a very high level of effort and importance on the education of patients and dental colleagues regarding the delivery of implant dentistry. He believes that patients and dentists hwo make fully informed decisions tend to have the highest level of satisfoaction with the care that is provided.
Leadership in the Dental Profession
Dr. Cyr is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, Richmond Dental Society, Virginia Dental Association, Virginia Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, and is co-founder & treasurer of the Midlothian Study Club. He is also an active member of the Southside Study Club and the Commonwealth Oral & Facial Surgery Implant Study Club.
He is honored to be a part-time Assistant Professor at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry and enjoys the teaching opportunities that this provides.
He is also a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society. He was awarded the A.D. Williams Research Grant in 1991. In 2011, Dr. Cyr was voted a "Top Dentist" by his peers in the category of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in “Virginia Living Magazine.
