About Dr. Sarraf
Dr. Ammar A. Sarraf was born in Baghdad, Iraq. He and his family relocated to the U.S. after the first Gulf War and he attended both middle and high school in Chesterfield, Virginia. Dr. Sarraf graduated from the University of Virginia in 2004 with a BS in Chemistry with specialization in Biochemistry. He went on to earn his DDS degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2009. In July 2013, he completed his Oral Surgery Residency from Virginia Commonwealth University and joined us in August 2013. Dr. Sarraf is now accepting patients at our Patterson Avenue and Huguenot Road locations.
Expertise in Dental Implants
Dr. Sarraf brings a background of implant-related studies, including hands-on coursework wth the Misch International Implant Institute, to Commonwealth Oral & Facial Surgery. He is also a member of the local affiliate of the International Team for Implantology (ITI), an alliance of implant professionals whose mission is "to promote and disseminate knowledge on all aspects of implant dentistry and related tissue regeneration through education and research to the benefit of the patient," staying abreast of the most up-to-date technology. Additionally, he adds specialized training that has focused on bone grafting and soft tissue management to his implantology experience.
Commonwealth Oral & Facial Surgery is unique in that all of the doctors collaborate with and support the patients' referring dentists to ensure optimal treatment outcomes. The practice also contributes to the continuing education of the Richmond dental community by hosting implant study clubs for local colleagues, including presentations by renowned leaders in implant dentistry. The ultimate goal is collaboration to assist patients in achieving ideal function and esthetic results.
Leadership in the Dental Profession
Dr. Sarraf is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Society, Virginia Dental Association, Richmond Dental Society, and Psi Omega Dental Fraternity.
He also has teaching experience as a Dental Anesthesia Clinical Instructor as well as a Gross Anatomy Teaching Assistant.
Community & Family
Dr. Sarraf is passionate about volunteerism and community service. His most recent endeavors have been to serve in Jamaica and Honduras as well as the Mission of Mercy projects throughout Virginia.
Ammar is married to Sara Ivey Sarraf, an OB/GYN in the Richmond area. Both are avid travelers, enjoy running and hiking, cooking and international cuisine. They are enthusiastic Cavalier fans.
