About Dr. Otten

Dr. Otten grew up in Washington, Illinois, and completed undergraduate studies at Creighton University.  He graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry in 1989 and Louisiana State Medical Center College of Medicine in 1992.  He then completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Louisiana State Medical Center.  He has served 25 years in the US Army/Reserves and is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Expertise in Dental Implants

He is one of the area’s leading experts in implant placement and continues to build upon his implant education by attending continuing education seminars to stay up to date on the most innovative techniques.

At your initial consultation, you will have a diagnostic x-ray, at no charge, with a referral from your General Dentist.  He will then perform an examination of the gums and bone around the teeth before treatment options are discussed thoroughly with you and your family.  Dr. Otten believes dental implants are the standard of care for patients with missing teeth, and will include them in your treatment plan when the conditions are right.

Leadership in the Dental Profession

Dr. Otten is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.  He is an active member of numerous professional organizations including the American Dental Association, American Medical Association, Illinois Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Academy of Osseointegration, Peoria District Dental Society, and the Central Illinois International Team for Implantology Study Club.

Community and Family

He continues to serve as a faculty member of the Dental Residency Program and Chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Dr. Otten and his wife of 30 years, Molly, enjoy spending time boating and fishing.  They also spend much of their free time traveling to see their 3 grown children.
