About Dr. Tibbetts

Dr. Tibbetts is one of the most distinguished Periodontists in the country.  His many accomplishments include, serving in numerous leadership positions in professional organizations on the local, state, and national levels, lecturing nationally and internationally on periodontics, microsurgery and dental implants, and publishing articles for scientific journals.  He has been recognized by his colleagues with several honors and awards for his contributions to the specialty and the profession.

Serving as the Visiting Chair Professor in Periodontics and as a Visiting Assistant Professor Periodontics at the University of Washington School of Dentistry, Dr. Tibbetts was able to mentor a generation of new Periodontists at one of the nation’s finest dental schools, where he had previously completed his Certificate in Periodontics and his MSD.

Expertise in Dental Implants

Dr. Tibbetts is recognized throughout the profession for furthering the advances in periodontal and dental implant microsurgery.  He has shared his work in this highly specialized discipline with colleagues at major conferences nationally and internationally and has published his research in a number of scientific journals.

As one of only a handful of Periodontists performing microsurgical dental implant procedures, Dr. Tibbetts has provided non-invasive dental implants for thousands of patients throughout the Dallas Fort Worth area.

Leadership in the Dental Profession

A true leader in the specialty of Periodontics and the dental profession, Dr. Tibbetts has held leadership roles in multiple professional organizations for over three decades.  He has served as President of the Texas Society of Periodontists, President of the Southwest Society of Periodontists, President of the American Academy of Periodontology, and President of the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation.  In addition, he has served as served on numerous committees within these organizations focusing on research, education, policy, and various clinical issues, as well as several editorial boards for scientific journals.

Recognized by colleagues for his clinical excellence, Dr. Tibbetts often collaborates with Dr. Shanelec, who pioneered dental implant and periodontal microsurgery, instructing and mentoring Periodontists from all over the world in the utilization of these innovative techniques.

Honors and Awards

The profession has acknowledged Dr. Tibbetts’ contributions to the profession by presenting him with several honors and awards, including the American Academy of Periodontology Master Clinician Award, the American Academy of Periodontology Gold Metal Award, the American Academy of Periodontology Presidential Award, and countless others throughout the years.
