About Dr. Chan
Dr. Michael Chan earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of California at San Francisco, immediately after which he invested four years in training at the King-Drew Medical Center (in affiliation with the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente Medical Center) developing the critical clinical skills required to successfully achieve Board Certification in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Chan also underwent extensive clinical training in many other aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery including reconstructive dental implant surgery, corrective and reconstructive jaw surgery and effective treatment of temporomandibular joint disorders.
Expertise in Dental Implants
In addition to Dr. Chan’s education and expertise in every aspect of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, his primary professional interests include the many treatment modalities which support his patient’s individual goals for reconstructing their facial and oral health, as well as their appearance, through clinical therapies. These options may include dentoalveolar surgery, implant surgeries and related hard and soft tissue grafting, the management of oral pathology, and outpatient general anesthesia.
Leadership in the Dental Profession
While Dr. Chan maintains a full-time schedule in his private practice, he also enjoys his role as a part-time adjunct faculty member in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UCSF, where he leads lectures on a variety of clinical topics for pre- and post-doctoral students, as well as providing clinical instruction for Oral and Maxillofacial surgical residents and pre-doctoral dental students. The focus of his teaching centers on dentoalveolar and trauma surgery as well as outpatient general anesthesia provided at San Francisco General Hospital. He has earned and maintains the professional level of a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
Community and Family
Dr. Chan is an avid sports enthusiast! He enjoys watching, participating in, and talking about sports. He is always planning his next traveling adventure with his family and they can be found dining in a variety of restaurants as he is known as somewhat of a “foodie”. At the end of the day, Dr. Chan remembers why he does what he does. He feels honored and humbled to be in a position in life where he helps the members of his San Francisco community become healthier and happier through his work as an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon.
