About Dr. Thomas
Dr. Thomas attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Dentistry where he received his Doctorate in Dental Surgery, as well as a Bachelor of Science Degree. After four years of practice in the U.S. Navy as a general dentist, he went on to complete post-graduate studies in Periodontology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, School of Dentistry.
His practice in New Bern, NC is focused primarily on dental implant reconstruction, aesthetic periodontal plastic surgery, and complex interdisciplinary dentistry. His passion is helping patients who need dental implants to replace anterior teeth.
Expertise in Dental Implants
Recognized for his expertise in dental implant procedures, Dr. Thomas has been a Fellow in the International Team for Implantology for over a decade, serving as the U.S. Section Correspondent. He has shared his expertise with colleagues, lecturing at numerous conferences throughout the country on various aspects of implant dentistry. Dr. Thomas is a part-time instructor in the graduate Periodontics Department at the University of North Carolina, instructing residents on surgical implant procedures. In addition to lecturing and teaching, he is a reviewer for the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry and the Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry.
Leadership in the Dental Profession
Dr. Thomas demonstrates his ongoing commitment to Periodontics and implant dentistry with his membership and involvement with numerous professional organizations. Over the years has served in leadership positions in many organizations, including past President of the North Carolina Society of Periodontists, three times past President of the Craven Jones Pamlico Dental Society, past local arrangements chairman of the Fifth District Dental Society of North Carolina, and past member of the Advisory Committee on Sedation and General Anesthesia. Dr. Thomas also serves on the Advisory Board of the Institute for Dental Implant Awareness, including the committee on training guidelines for implant placement.
