About Dr. Baker
Dr. James A. Baker completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas in 1974. He then went on to complete his extensive surgical residency training in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center from 1975-1979. Dr. Baker opened his practice as an Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1979, where he has maintained that private practice since that time. He achieved certification by the American Board of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons (ABOMS) in 1981 and has maintained his status with the ABOMS since that time. His professional affiliations include membership in the Oklahoma State Dental Association, the America Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and the American Society of TMJ Surgeons.
Expertise in Dental Implants
Dr. Baker has long advocated dental implant therapy for his patients with missing teeth and has also developed clinical placement techniques that may allow some patients to leave his professional office with replacement teeth in as little as three to four hours. He performs all surgeries and dental implant procedures in a hospital-style operating suite, optimizing the level of sterility and thereby improving the quality outcome of his patient’s care. Dr. Baker finds that this is especially important for those patients who have unique medical needs or specific anesthesiology needs.
Leadership in the Dental Profession
Dr. Baker is currently the Department Chairman of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department at both St. Anthony’s and Deaconess Hospitals. He is an active staff member at Baptist Medical Center and is closely affiliated with many of the hospitals in the Oklahoma City area. Dr. Baker is also an Associate Professor at the University of Oklahoma Medical School, Department of Surgery. He is presently serving in a variety of leadership positions in the dental community and is the recent former President of the Oklahoma Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Oklahoma Society of Dental Anesthesiology.
